How much does pest control usually costs?
Prices for the most commonly encountered household pests usually costs about $400.00-$500.00 for the year. This includes an initial fee with monthly or quarterly maintenance fees. Each house & problem is different, so prices may vary with your problem or the pest management program needed to correct it.
Do you also deal with moles & voles?
Yes we do. Moles infest the yard feeding on earthworms & grubs. Voles feed on plants. Both can be difficult to control, but if the right program is put into place we can generally get rid of them. Success varies from place to place, a lot of the problem may have started elsewhere & migrated to your yard. In these cases control may difficult to achieve. Do you have to use sprays for everything?
We have little black ants in the kitchen & bathrooms. What are they & how do you get rid of them?
This ant is most likely the odorous house ant (they get their name from the coconut like odor that is produced when crushed). These ants can nest both indoors & out. They forage for food both night & day, they eat many different types of food but prefer sweets. The colonies can number up to 100,000 ants & produce many other smaller colonies (called satellite colonies) throughout the year. These ants can be controlled by using baits, non-repellant sprays, clearing harborage areas & improving sanitation. However, ant extermination can take many treatments, depending on number of colonies.
What other types of services do you offer?
We also offer services in relation to pest/insects & wildlife. Such as, some Termite Damage we encounter during inspections can be repaired by us. If we feel the damage found is far too great for us, we would recommend hiring a contractor. We also remove & disinfect soiled insulation in attics & crawl spaces. This is insulation that animals have ruined during nesting or roosting. Bats in attics almost always require this service. We also treat wood for fungi growth, we clean gutters & install gutter guards.
Do over the counter sprays really work?
Some over the counter sprays work for a limited time & some do not. The biggest difference is that our exterminators have been trained to understand the biology & behavior of the insect. This knowledge is very useful in determining the best method of treatment. Also, the over the counter sprays are generally products our industry used 10 years ago or it’s just a watered down version.
How often should I have my house sprayed?
Depending on what type of insects you are having a problem with, we usually recommend a Quarterly Pest Control Program. Some insects like roaches may require a monthly service.
Do you take care of all types of pests?
Yes we are a full service professional pest control company. If it walks, crawls, flies, slithers or hops we take care of it.
Is the pesticide you put in my house harmful to my children, pets or me?
The products that we use are all regulated by the EPA. Our technicians have all been properly trained to apply it according to Label specifications. Yes, insect control pesticides can be harmful if not properly handled or applied correctly. However, if used properly there is very little exposure to children, pets or you. We make sure to inspect surroundings & apply the products so insects & rodents come in contact with it & that you & your family do not.
What types of treatments are available against Termites?
There are generally two types of termite treatments available to you. The first is the traditional liquid barrier treatment. This is applied around the exterior of your home against the foundation. This type of treatment may require some treatment holes to be drilled in concrete slabs attached to the home. The second type is a termite baiting system. This is done by installing bait stations around the home. These stations are installed about 6-8 Ft. apart & about 2 Ft. from foundation. The bait system is inspected every 60-90 days. Both come with a one year warranty. Initial termite inspection is absolutely free.
What do termites look like?
Swarmers, as mentioned above are mistaken for flying ants all the time. Termite swarmers are black & have wings. The differences between ants & termites are many. Termite swarmers do not have a pinched or segmented body. They have a solid body from head to tail. Termite swarmers have a pair of wings that are equal in length & twice as long as the termite. Also the wings are not a permanent appendage. Termite workers are white or cream colored. They can only travel above ground by building tubes made out of soil. Termite workers have no exoskeleton & must return to the ground periodically to remoisten their body & share the wood with other members of the colony. Termite colonies live in the ground not in your home. Termites come to the surface to feed in mulch beds, on landscape timbers, fences, fire wood, your home & many other wood sources that come in direct contact with the ground. You may never see worker termites unless you find them in the areas that they are feeding in. Visit our termite pest control page so that you can see pictures of what termites look like.
Do termites fly?
Yes! Each year usually from April-June termites known as swarmers come to the surface & take flight. These termites have only one purpose, it is to mate & start new colonies. They have no ability to eat wood! If you see a swarm of termites around or in your home call right away. This is an indication that somewhere on your property there is a parent colony that the swarmers are leaving. This colony may be threatening or may have already invaded your home. Our termites control service can protect you from this invasion.
I live in an all Brick home so I don’t have to worry about termites do I?
Actually, you may be more at risk than many other types of homes. As mentioned above, termites can enter through very small cracks in concrete or mortar. Brick homes usually have brick down to the ground or below ground level. Behind the brick is a 1″ inch gap known as a weep gap. This is there to allow moisture to escape from behind the wall. The problem is, if termites find a tiny crack in the mortar around the brick & get into this weep gap area they go undetected. Directly behind the bricks weep gap is the wood that your home is built with & this is what termites find & destroy. Read more about our termite extermination services.
How do I know if I have Termites?
You Don’t! Termites invade millions of homes each year. They cause more damage to homes annually than fire, water or any other natural disaster. Termites can enter any style of home through a gap as small as two sheets of paper in width. So, if you currently have not had your home protected or inspected we Highly recommend it. You should have your home inspected once a year. The best time is from May-October, this is when termites are most active. Remember, the cost of termite treatment is nothing compared the amount of damage that termites can cause.
What types of animals do you deal with?
We deal with squirrels, raccoons, opossums, skunks, groundhogs, bats, snakes, birds. Beaver & Deer on occasion, they can be to difficult & the problem too widespread for us to control. Read more about our wildlife control services.
Do the animals mess up insulation?
Yes they can & do. Most often we have to remove the animals from the attics of homes. The animals displace the insulation using it for nesting material & also use it as their bathroom. In most cases the problem is relatively small. However, we do encounter major problems & recommend the insulation be replaced. Because of the damage that pests can do if not noticed we recommend our preventive pest control services. Have other questions about our pest removal services? Can animals be accidentally closed in the sealed area or die in the traps?
Unfortunately this sometimes occurs. We take every step to insure that this does not happen. However, animals can hide from us even though we try to make sure there are no more in the nest areas & animals panic when trapped causing them to perish. Again we do not want this to happen but when dealing with animals it doesn’t always go the way we have planned.
What do you use to fix the entry area?
We use a wide variety of products to seal animal entry points. We use metal flashing, wire meshing & wood. We evaluate the situation & determine the best method to fix your home.
What do you use to make the animal enter the trap?
We use different types of baits for different types of animals. This will help entice the animal to enter. However, keep in mind we cannot make the animal enter the trap. Some animals are trap shy or will avoid it because there is an alternate food source.
Do you kill the animals you trap?
No! We only temporarily keep the animal trapped so we can seal the entry point. We then release the animal. Animals can no longer be transported from the property unless that animal is going to be euthanized.
It says that you also take care of wildlife, How is this done?
Typically we can flush the animal out of the home & seal the entry point. However, some animals may require us to trap to remove.
